When to call

If your water heater is doing any of these, the clock is ticking.

A water heater that's about to fail almost always tells you. The cost difference between catching it early and finding a flooded utility room is large.

Hot water runs out faster than it used to

Sediment at the bottom of the tank is displacing usable volume. Flush + anode service usually buys back years.

Rusty or discolored hot water

The anode rod has been spent and the tank wall is starting to corrode. This is a clock that ends in a flooded room.

Popping or rumbling from the tank

Sediment scale being heated. Loud at first, then it stops, because the bottom heating element finally gave up.

Water on the floor near the tank

Could be the T&P valve. Could be a bottom-tank leak. We tell you which, today.

It's 8 to 10+ years old and never been flushed

In Las Cruces water that's late in the life curve. We'd rather plan a replacement than meet you on a Saturday after a leak.

Frequently asked

Water heater questions, answered.

Why do water heaters fail faster in Las Cruces?

The water around here is among the hardest in the country. Calcium and magnesium scale builds up at the bottom of the tank, accelerates wear on the anode rod, insulates the lower heating element until it burns out, and corrodes the tank wall from the inside. Without periodic flushing and anode service, a tank rated for 12 years routinely fails at year 6 or 7. The fix is awareness and a flush-plus-anode visit every 12 to 18 months.

Should I get a tank or tankless?

Both work in Las Cruces. Tankless is more efficient, takes up less space, and lasts longer if you commit to annual descaling (and in our water, you have to). Tank is cheaper to install up front and easier to service when something fails. We quote both where it makes sense and show you the actual math on operating cost, install cost, and lifetime cost. There's no single right answer.

Can you replace my tank the same day?

Most standard 40 or 50 gallon gas or electric tank swaps are a same-day install. We pull the failed unit, haul it off, set the new one, connect water, gas/electric, T&P, expansion tank if needed, and verify hot water before we leave. Tankless conversions and gas line upgrades may need a second day depending on the install.

Do you flush hard-water tanks?

Yes. Annual sediment flush plus anode rod inspection (and replacement when it's spent) is the single highest-leverage thing you can do to extend a water heater's life in Las Cruces water. It's not glamorous and it's not expensive. Most homeowners haven't done it once in the life of their tank, and it shows.

What about a softener or whole-home filter?

If you go tankless or you've replaced more than one tank in 10 years, a softener or scale-reduction system pays for itself fast. We'll point you to a plumber for the install but we'll tell you on site whether it's worth pricing.

Do you handle gas line work?

For water heater connections, yes. Gas valve replacement, flexible connector, and sediment trap are all in scope. Whole-home gas re-piping is a job for a licensed plumber and we'll make the introduction.
